Memories since young...

Lately I have been thinking a lot. Maybe it is because I have too much time. What have I been thinking then? You know in life, there will always be some memories in your mind which even though it has happened long time ago but it is still so vivid. These memories might not be very significant but they just stay in your mind forever. I run through some of them and would like to share those that I can still remember here. I am talking about childhood memories btw, not those that happen in recent years. Childhood memories are more innocent and they usually bring a smile to your face just by thinking about them. That is a photo of me taken when I was really young.

Let me start with my old house which is actually the kampong in the current sembawang area. Most of my friends would have know that I stayed in a kampong before Singapore really started developing. Let me tell those who have not experienced the life living in a kampong before, it is really an experience of a lifetime. And certainly it adds colours to my childhood. How often do you find kids nowadays wondering by themselves to the woods to explore strange holes(I believe were left behind by soldiers who dug trenches) or streams to catch fish. Not forgetting urinating into the small streams or doing some big businesses there. I would be lying if I said I have never done all the above. But that's what it makes a kampong boy.

My family used to deal with rearing, buying and selling of fishes while in the kampong. They have these big ponds dug out from soil, some as big as a swimming pool, where they use it to keep their fishes. The working place could be called a kelong(off shore fish farm), with those stilts, wooden planks for people to walk around. I liked running across a long plank testing my balancing skills. Of course I have failed before, getting myself wet in the water and incurring the wrath of my dad. But it is fun you see and you will do it again. I remember sometimes my uncles or dad would need to go into the water to collect the eggs of a certain fish laid in holes beneath the mud. This would be the perfect time to go swimming with them. (I wonder why my swimming skills still sucks) Anyway me and my brothers would just follow them and check out on the eggs, playing with the water most of the time of course.

You might have seen this in TV shows where they used bamboos to make a raft and the people crossed rivers sitting on them. Yes. I have done that too. Not kidding. Just that the raft we made will sink ultimately before it can reach the other end. Those were the fun things we do. Dirty, sweaty, full of mud and water, adventurous.. kampong kids.

There are more memories of course. It would take me ages to write all of them here. I will save them for the future.

I thought of my great grand mother lately. She passed away few years ago. Was a couple of years short of 100. Lived long enough to see her great great grandchildren. 5 generations. I remembered she didn't lived a very happy life especially her last 10 years. It was more of old age and illnesses that caused it. She could not see or hear properly, had difficulty in walking and you know those old age symptoms. She used to come over to my house and would just sit there staring whole day into the wall. Sometimes she would chat with us, but it was very hard to communicate with her. You need to shout a bit for her to hear you and she might not comprehend fully what you are trying to get across. Now that she is gone, I sort of miss her. That's the way life is going to end?

Just some thoughts here.. cherish your loved ones, go do things you would like to do. It is just one life. Live it and live it to the fullest.

Fox sale

Was at bishan today doing something. Saw this Fox sale: Up to 50% off and additional 10% for 3 pieces and above. Today is the start of the offer. Can you believe it?

I bought this bermudas(left) original price $49 at 30% off. Throw in another 10% bcos I bought 3 pieces, and it only cost $29.40. It is cheap considering the material and design. I have always wanted to buy another bermudas because I like to wear and I can wear it to school. Comfortable and fashionable.

Next item I bought was a tank top going at 40% off its original price of $19. Plus 10% off and I only have to pay $9.50. Hmm.. casual and suave. Suits guys like me. Eh what you laughing at? Go see Nacho Libre and you will think I look better.

Last item was this shirt priced at $26 but having 30% off. Add the 10% and you get $15.60.

Total cost is only $54.50 for 3 items. Wow.. so hurry and get your ass down to FOX tml.

Actually I spent $57.50 because the additional 10% is only after all the stated discount. So there will be some minor differences between the actual price per item with the ones I have calculated above.

After that, had dinner with ch, trixie, anna and haiyin at sakura. Just a mini gathering. We went to see a movie after that and sad to say, it is the worst movie I have seen this year. The winner goes to Nacho Libre!! Pls don't watch unless you really have nothing to do. We should have watched Pirates of the Carribean. What a waste..

News...

All right, today is my off day so taking some time here to update my blog. Tml will be the last day of the track event. After that, most likely I will just continue with my tuition and maybe the skate shop job for a few days before school opens. That will be the best time for me to hit to the gym and build up my muscles ~~so that the gals will drool when they see...~~ Anyway, I just feel like slacking before I get busy with my school work. Hence, if there are any activities, ask me along k.

Another news which maybe my sec sch friends will be happy is that my bro is getting a car! That means I get to drive sometimes, I hope so. Then they can get free rides home. Well, at least there is a car so it increases the probability that I am able to drive. Better than no car right. Everything is still in its initial stage. Will keep u guys updated.

Hmm.. now I have roughly come up with my time table for the coming sem. Will be taking 5 modules including the 2001 project worth 6 mcs and I am not gg to overload myself. Other modules include HR2002 which I actually wanted to take in sem 2 but they say they are not gg to offer to my dept in sem 2. Therefore I have to exchange Engin Prof with HR. Taking only 1 elective 3406 for a start. For Singapore Studies, I intend to take employee management with td. Not gg to S\U it so I need to work hard for it. Last module is actually Intro to nano world. I am interested in it but I heard it is not easy to score. Finding people to take with me. Join me!! No exam but the lectures are all at night. I wish I can get the hall.. It will be a tough sem definitely, with all the projects.

Track and field...

All right, my track and field event has finally enter its last stage. 2 more days the next week and it will be over. Though it is quite tiring, considering that I have to stand under the hot sun and sweat for long hours, this job is actually interesting. It is related to sports which is my cup of tea and you get to meet lots of people. Made some new friends and working with people you already know is fun. Hence, when the event is over I will have mixed feelings I guess.

Was talking to zhiren during work and we discussed about the equality of women and men. How has the status between men and women change over the years? I mean women keep asking for equality between the sexes but somehow they still expect themselves to be treated differently in certain aspects. He was complaining that why do guys have to foot the bill for the gals when going out? A sign of gentlemen-lism? Then wat about the equality they have been talking about? haha.. just some thoughts here.. no doubt the status of women have risen over the years but somehow I think in Sg there is still this culture of giving in to women at times... or rather in most countries this is true too.

I agree that the position of women, as in their social status, have risen over the past decade. We are seeing more women in higher posts. Let us not talk about women in that class. Look at the gals around us, are they given special treatment by guys? Hmm.. I would think so.. I mean definitely I would help them open the door, send them back home when it is too late, buy them drinks or help them do little favours.. some of them are appreciative while others might have taken it for granted. Worst is they complain when you never do it. But generally I think my female friends are all ok. Yup. You heard that right. You belong to that group. Actually I think I treat them quite nice. I don't bully them that's for sure..haha..Enough of this..

Haiz.. I am still considering what modules to take.. headache.. leave this till the track event is over. Tired. Got to rest..

World cup updates.. won quite a bit on this morning match between Germany and Italy. Betted draw and 0 goals. Won 70 plus dollars with just 20 dollar bet. Nice judgement. It was an exciting match and I am glad to have watched it with alex they all. A pity all of us were pretty tired and could not spend more time yesterday. We did play some bridge games and winning 11 just like the old times back in camp during attachment. Probably will meet them again for some badminton next week.

My work updates.. currently working in cck stadium for the track and field event till 19 July. One good thing about this job is that it only takes up weekdays, freeing the weekends for my tuition and leisure. However, the job can be quite draggy at times. Always asking us to meet earlier when most of the time we just wait there. But I could really get a good tan from this job, so don't be surprise to see me darker than before. Haha but think I will need lots of sun block to prevent myself from being sun burned.

Suddenly, I feel really tired working. Maybe the late nights of soccer and work are wearing me out. Really feel like going for a holiday. I was discussing with td and soen, that day we went over to msia, that a holiday to Australia might be good. Just the price of the air tickets. Can't seem to find any cheap package or offer. Anyone any lobang?

Most likely after this track and field job, I won't be taking up any more temp jobs. Left about 3 weeks to school when it ends. Would like to do some soul searching... haha kidding I mean just slack and prepare for school reopening. It is holiday after all. Why work so hard? It is time to give myself some time off.. money isn't everything. And I don't really need them at this moment. So I guess I will just take it easy from here.

Ok.. updates when I have more interesting news..
